here is a thing that happened the other day
I will let you draw your own conclusions from it.
my friend has a friend who has been in immigration detention for over two years now. he is, obviously, miserable and vulnerable. she worries about him a lot.
last year he was transferred interstate with no notice because that’s how the Department of Immigration and Citizenship rolls. then he got really sick because he was sleeping in the open for about a week in winter in the rain because part of the detention centre was burnt down in a riot. they could have brought in tents or temporary housing but he is pretty sure they delayed it on purpose as punishment for the riots.
recently my friend’s been in that state for the first time in ages so of course she went to visit him. she had her dog with her because she hadn’t realised she couldn’t bring her in. so she left the dog in her car while she was visiting. now we all know this is not ideal but it’s once more the middle of winter in Australia and it’s been fucking freezing in the southeastern states. also she left the window open a couple of inches, and checked on the dog every half hour or so to make sure she was happy. the dog was fine. she dotes on that dog like you have to see to believe.
as she was leaving a guard yelled at her at length for her cruelty in keeping an animal in such conditions.
