One of the most validating things that anyone has ever said to me was when I was 19, and I said, “I dunno, he’s really charming, so no one can really believe that he would do the things that he does,” and this person said, “Fuck charming men. Charming men are half the reason why no one believes rape victims. I’m way more likely to believe that a man is a predatory scumbag once I find out that he’s a charming prick whom everyone thinks is The Shit.”
