Another thing happening on tumblr of late a lot is pointing out that not all sex workers “choose” the way all the privileged middle-upper class cis sex workers who are in it for the thrill and post about it on the internet do. And about how it isn’t “empowering” for all workers. 

And that’s true and I’ve posted a lot about how sex workers rights is primarily about human and labour rights, not a sexual revolution and it totally sucks the discourse is dominated by those ‘acceptable’ types of sex workers who focus overmuch on the idea of mutual sexual liberation than about what it’s really about for most workers.

But right now I’m also listening to a woman next to me, a middle-aged woman from a working class background with no education beyond high school, and a smack addiction, whose obviously lived it pretty damn hard, talk about how she loves having sex with different people and she thinks she has more orgasms than her clients do and she gets paid to do it and she’s laughing about it and loving it.

I mean, I was going to make this post anyway when I was thinking about earlier today, because whilst sex work may not be sexually empowering for many workers, and whilst many workers didn’t “choose” it in as clear-cut a way as a very particularly privileged demographic, it pisses me right the fuck off that a lot of feminists don’t recognise that being able to pay your fucking bills working in a very short period of time, with no tax, cash in hand, is actually pretty goddamned empowering.

But yeah, it’s just funny when even the stereotypes can’t be stereotypes but still every fucking feminist from every fucking sphere will insist that we be.
