today I was helping out some socialists with doorknocking as a favour and this guy kept saying I was a “natural” at doorknocking which was sort of flattering but kind of weird and undermining and I couldn’t figure out why
then I realised it was because I’ve been campaigning to strangers since I was fourteen and it’s not natural to me, I’m not super friendly and extroverted, I worked for this ability to build rapport, I’m not a natural, I’m skilled
and when I figured that out I felt worse but also better
