what do you have against graphic design?
graphic designers combine the worst aspects of artists and people in more straightforwardly commercial lines of work in that they a) are pretentious and never have any money and make you pay for their drinks and also b) spend most of their time whenever they do get a job hucking stuff for corporate behemoths, being in denial about it, and making incredibly pedestrian aesthetic choices. see also: people who wanted to be poets but became copywriters
to be fair, artists and poets are just as toolish in their own way
