Salvation Army have disconnected internet access to asylum seekers on Nauru Camps. They also claim their support for the Australian Government in their attempts to prevent desperate asylum seekers from being exploited by the people smugglers. While trying to portray people smugglers as criminals and the asylum seekers as naïve victims, the Salvation Army is using the same rhetoric as the Australian Government. It makes it questionable how much they actually care about the asylum seekers’ wellbeing. It was a convenient move for the Australian Government to contract the Christian charity as a service provider. It gives an illusion of humaneness to a highly inhumane offshore processing.
