I think he’s mainly just pointing out that as a queer guy, it’s kind of disorienting and distressing to be constantly exposed to a whole bunch of public health messages that actively encourage contradictory affects

I like it because at the moment I am very interested in the problem of how to encourage optimism (that is, an orientation to the world where you believe good things are possible and therefore can work towards them) and an awareness of the harsh realities in the way of these good things
